Suspension

UPDATE

Following our visit to Simard Suspensions, here is what was done on the truck. They removed all the front leaves and replaced them with tapered leaves. Once the alignment was done, we went for a test drive. The result is a 100% improvement. We are very satisfied with the service received from this very professional company.

Even if the truck is new, that does not mean that there is no problem. We have issues with the front suspension. The truck was delivered with a 1 3/4” difference and was leaning towards the driver (left side). Also, there was almost no travel on the driver side. The dealership never shied away and said he would find a solution.

The proposed solution was to put a 2″ spacer under the leaves on the driver’s side to increase the travel. But the result was that the leaves sag.

The weight is 15,800 lbs on the front axle which is made for 16,000 lbs.

So they said that the leaf springs were of poor quality and decided to change them on the driver’s side and also by adding 2 more leaf springs. The result, the truck is even more leaned (2 1/4”)

For several weeks, I have been suggesting that they change these 8-10 leaf springs with 3 tapered parabolic leaves, but without listening to my solution.

After consultation with 3 suspension specialists, Simard Suspensions of Baie-Saint-Paul proposed a 3 tapered parabolic leaves suspension and removed the 8-10 leaves. We’re going to put 9,000 lbs on the driver’s side and 8,000 lbs on the passenger side and a small block for height adjustment.

To be continued for the installation….
